racing with a purpose

Forward Racing is a team with a purpose. We are a race team that competes in everything from the local 5k to the Ironman World Championships in Kona. We are primarily focused on road events for running, triathlon, and bike races, but we also enjoy the occasional trail run and mountain bike race. We are a community team that loves to train and race together.

Forward Racing is a team that encourages development. We have many advanced racers on our team, but we try to create an environment where less experienced racers can learn from those that have been racing for many years. We also provide optional one-on-one and customized plan coaching services to our run and triathlon athletes. These services are great for individuals who have ambitious goals and need guidance and accountability. Our services also work well for beginners who are new to the sport and want to accelerate their learning curve. Individual coaching is not a requirement to be on the team.

Forward Racing is a team that focuses on more than just results. We are composed of individuals ranging from world championship finishers to first time racers. Your desire to be a part of our group is more important than results. We want team members to join us at our events - from group trainer sessions to monthly team dinners.

Forward Racing is more than a race team - it is a family. We love to race, but we have found that the journey to the race is just as rewarding as the race itself. We love having our families join us on the journey. Our families are important and are included at monthly team dinners and on training weekends at the beach.

Forward Racing gives back. Racing can be a selfish sport. As a team, we look for ways to give back to the community. We are always open to suggestions for how our team can better serve the community. We train together and we serve together.

We are primarily based out of Fredericksburg, VA but our principles can apply to any community, and we welcome team members outside of our area. If you think that you may be a good fit for the team, reach out to us so that we can discuss what we have to offer for you.

Jeff came to the sport of triathlon with a background in basketball and soccer. He transitioned to triathlon after mountain biking for a few years after college. He still enjoys the trails and Xterra races, but is primarily focused on long distance triathlon. He writes software and is by profession a very detail-oriented person. As a USAT Level 1 Coach he enjoys analyzing workout data to find the changes an athlete can make that will take them to the next level. He has completed over ten Ironman distance races with a PR of 9:11 and is a multi-time Kona finisher. He knows what it takes to get to the top of the sport. He looks forward to helping athletes accomplish their goals whether it is finishing their first triathlon or qualifying for Kona.

Silvio Guerra was born in San Gabriel, Carchi, Ecuador into a large family. His discipline and willingness to help others ultimately propelled him to great success in the running world. Silvio started running because one of his sisters enjoyed the sport. Silvio's mother wouldn't let her daughter run alone so Silvio got the job of bodyguard. The rest is history. Silvio has competed internationally in everything from the 1500m to the 10k to the marathon (and even steeplechase). In 1996 he competed in the 10k at the Atlanta summer games and then he ran the marathon in both the Sydney and Athens Olympics. He has finished second at Boston twice! Silvio now lives in Fredericksburg, VA with his wife and two kids. A lifelong competitor, he has taken up the sport of triathlon and continues to excel. He enjoys helping others find their stride.

Jesse mastrom

Jesse was always an active kid. She loved anything to do with sports and always wanted to be outside. At a young age, she was inspired by her active mom and, at the suggestion of a science teacher, joined the track team. She fell in love with the sport of running and ran cross country and track throughout high school and some college. Years later, while deployed to Japan with her husband, she ran her first marathon in Tokyo and became an assistant cross country coach. On their next deployment to California, a friend suggested she try a 70.3. She gave it a go and hasn’t looked back. She has since completed over ten 70.3 and five Ironman distance races, including the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Her passion for triathlon continues to grow and she looks forward to helping others achieve their goals and dreams.
